One of my favorite arts and crafts fair is making its way back to my community, and I could not be more excited. The preparation and hard work has begun. I am trying to get everything in order and ready to go. So that way I will have plenty of items to sell and show off. When a new year comes around that means new fairs and festivals, and I am always reminded of my first year on my own trying to make it as an artist at my first show. It was crazy, but I learned from it. If you are new to arts and crafts fairs, then here are some things I learned my first year that might help you out as well.

Preparation has to start more than a week before the show. If you like your sanity, or whatever you have left, make plans to get ready and prepared well in advance so you are not stressing out. You will be glad that you took your time and made sure all of your creations are thoughtfully crafted.

Set up the day before the fair starts. If you get to the fair the day it starts to set up, you will be beyond frustrated, trust me. Take advantage of the fact that most festivals give you the day before to set up your booth. You will have plenty of time to get things ready so that people can see all of your crafts and you will have the space set up the best way possible.

Have your prices clearly labeled. When you are talking with one customer, you will want prospective customers to be able to easily find the prices of items without having to interrupt you.

Find someone who will be willing to help you. Fairs and festivals last for a good while during the day. During that time you will probably have to eat and maybe step away from your set up. A friend or family member who is willing to help you out by manning the station occasionally can be a huge help that you will truly appreciate.

Unfortunately for me I had to learn those things the hard way. Luckily, I lived and learned and now arts and craft fairs are fairly easy and a whole lot of fun. It is always nice to have your work admired and of course purchased!

With strong roots in science, and inspiration from an acute appreciation of aesthetics, the glass sculptures made by these two design artists have woven science and art together in unique and awe-inspiring ways. How did a chemical engineer and a biology undergrad who met in the mid 1990s become leaders in a revolutionary way of glass weaving and design? It all began with humble stained glass windows. While designing and making several stained glass windows together, the two of them accidentally stumbled upon a new method of weaving strands of richly colored glass into colorful and eye-catchin fabrics and sculptures.

The following video is from The Scientist, and takes us on a magical walk through discovery, science, and design with these two brilliant men. We will see how they created their unusual method, and in what ways it has been used since then by the two of them, as well as by other glass sculpture artists. This takes glass weaving into an uncharted direction, one that promises to bring more glass art to the forefront of science. Learn more about glass weaving on channels available to you from direct tv.

When you see woven glass, then you are surely captivated and mesmerized that such a thing can actually be done. It is almost impossible for us to think about how to even go about doing such a thing with an art medium like glass, but it can be done. There are many artists all over the world who are creating amazing pieces from glass by weaving it into phenomenal and creative designs.

One of my favorite new purchases is a woven glass bowl that I got just the other day. I am using it as a bowl for my Bayou blaster potpourri, which if you have not tried yet, I definitely recommend. Anyway, since I have had my potpourri out on display in my gorgeous bowl that you can see below here, all of my friends and family have been so intrigued by this idea and process of weaving glass to create art and useful pieces. So to help them out and you as well, I found a video that explains the process a little more.

My new woven bowl that I absolutely love!

The video is Serena Altschul meeting with the artists Thom Norris and Eric Markow in their shop in Virginia. They give her some insight on how they are able to create such intricate works of art by weaving glass.

Glass is an amazing art medium, and no art gallery quite does glass justice like Weisser Glass studio. Located in Kensington, MD, Weisser Glass studio is a small quaint glass studio ran by a staff of four women. The staff radiates personality, and so does the art.

The owner is Nancy Weisser, and she has been working with glass for over 25 years. She has trained with some of the finest glass artist throughout her years, and her technique and style is top notch. The glass studio offers classes and some amazing exhibits.

In 2009, they featured a woven glass exhibit, which featured this piece:

Yes, that is all glass. It’s an exquisite example of woven glass. The “Autumn Sunset Kimono” is a creation by Markow and Norris. They feature several more on their website, so you if you are fascinated by the kimono above, we highly recommend you check out the rest of their works.

We are thankful that the Weisser Glass Studio continues to provide opportunity to the public to witness the beautiful art that is glass.

Eric Markow & Thom Norris are American Artist who developed the process of weaving glass at the turn of the 21st century. Yes, that’s right. They developed the process. We are, in fact, in the presence of the Godfathers of glass weaving. Markow and Norris debuted one of their first woven sculptures in 2003 at the Bullseye Connection Gallery in Portland, and the rest is history.

Since their debut, their artwork has been featured in over 40 publications. Their unique style captures the attention of millions, as it is impossible not to see on of their works and be in awe. Their artistic ability, believe it or not, is encouraged and influenced b their degrees in science. The beauty of science and art are literally woven by their finger tips into amazing art structures.

We definitely encourage you to visit their website and check out their portfolio yourself.
